Harkaway is a small family run guest house situated at the foot of the South Downs just ½ mile from the South Downs Way in the beautiful village of Bury. We have 4 bedrooms in total taking up to 6 guests. We offer full English, vegetarian or continental breakfast. Guests have their own entrance and drinks making facilities are freely available. Colour TV in guests dining room. Harkaway is a non- smoking house and is open all year round.

Bury is a very tranquil village nestling at the foot of the Downs. It is an ideal location as a base for walking with numerous footpaths just a stones throw away. Many other attractions are within a short drive away.

South Downs Way

Long distance path from Winchester to Eastbourne suitable for travel by foot, mountain bike or on horseback. We have an arrangement with a local farmer who offers accommodation for horses.
 

Arundel

Meandering streets, antique shops & tea rooms .The Castle is the second largest in the country, built in 1086 and beautifully restored in the 19th century. The Catholic Cathedral, built in Gothic style by the 15th Duke of Norfolk, has a spectacular carpet of flowers each Corpus Christi. The 14th century Anglican church with the Roman Catholic Fitzalan Chapel attached. Wildfowl & Wetlands Centre, a home to many rare or threatened species. River cruises on the Arun taking trippers as far as Amberley. First class cricket can be enjoyed in the beautiful grounds of Arundel Park.
 

Goodwood

Horse racing at Glorious Goodwood on top of the South Downs.
Motor racing at the Festival of Speed & the Revival Meeting.
 

Beaches

Clymping is a quiet shingle beach, Littlehampton and Bognor Regis have the usual attractions. 
 

Parham

Elizabethan house and formal gardens set within a deer park. Hosts several craft fayres each year.
 

Amberley

A lovely old village, the home of many artists and writers.
 

Amberley Working Museum

See traditional crafts being performed, or take a ride on the narrow gauge railway.

Pulborough Brooks

RSPB nature reserve and bird sanctuary is an ideal outing for all ages with superb views over the Arun Valley.
Petworth House A magnificent 17th century mansion set in grounds designed by Capability Brown and housing the National Trust's most important collection of paintings, including works by Turner & Van Dyck.
 
Tangmere  Military aviation museum on the site of a Battle of Britain airfield.
 
Singleton Weald & Downland open air museum tells the life of country folk and rural industries over the past 500 years.
 
Denmans  A 20th century garden with year round interest.
 
Fishbourne Roman Palace & Bignor Roman Villa Two of Britain's most important Roman sites noted for some of the largest and best preserved mosaics.
